Subject: This Morning

It is my responsibility to make the decision regarding school delays and cancellations. Today schools should have been delayed or cancelled.

I have to make the decision by 5:30 AM and all of the town road crews assured me the roads were fine and they could keep up. In fact, all of the schools in the region got the same information from their crews and opened on time.

I would never put students or staff in danger intentionally and I apologize for today. I truly felt the roads would be OK.

One of the challenges for me is the plow crews are employed by the Towns and how they approach the roads is a Town decision.  I believe the crews were surprised as well but I also need to think more about that relationship.
Again, I am sorry if you had a challenging trip this morning.  This was not my intent.
