• Humanities is the combined study of English Language Arts (reading and writing) and Global Studies (history, geography, and civics). For your reference, K-5 Global Studies resource lists are available in our library catalog. 

    Humanities teachers are trained in the Lucy Calkins workshop curriculum, which is used to provide classroom and small group instruction in reading and writing. Literacy support is also offered using the Orton-Gillingham approach and Leveled Literacy Intervention. Students in 5th grade also receive instruction in a daily Writers' Workshop with our humanities teacher.
