English Language Learners (ELL)
Central Vermont Supervisory Union welcomes speakers of all languages. During the school year, the English language learner program provides direct instruction to those students who have a demonstrated need for language support and who speak a language other than English in their home. Since 2012, our learning community has hosted English language intensives for students wishing to explore Vermont and American culture while developing English skills and we look forward to this summer when we welcome a new group of learners.
Our schools are committed to common goals that enhance the academic, character, and citizenship qualities of our students, including those who are not yet fluent in English. By law, English language support is provided to all school-aged children who speak a language other than English in their home and who have a demonstrated need for English language learning support. We strive to provide a positive culture of support and community for English language learners and their families and are proud of the international friendships and rich cultural sharing within our schools.

Seeking host families and peer mentors for the Northfield Middle High School partnership with Spiral International during the summer of 2020. Peers participate in the summer camp and build friendships with the visiting Chinese students, sharing about school, sports, food and hobbies. Host families provide bed, meals and transportation to and from school, and receive a stipend to offset their expenses. Families share their love of Vermont and their community.
